Sunshine and 7 eleven wonders

Waking up to sunshine makes everything feel better.

No matter how rough the day before was, light pouring through the window had a way of resetting our brains. The panic softened. The doubts quieted down. And suddenly, we thought: Okay. Maybe we can do this.

Step one of the day was obvious: food.

A bit of online searching led us to the answer every traveler in Thailand eventually finds—7-Eleven. Only seven minutes from our hotel. Easy, right?

Seven minutes… with four kids.
One in a stroller.
In a city that doesn’t really believe in sidewalks.

Walking in Bangkok

Walking in Bangkok quickly revealed itself as a creative experience. Traffic everywhere. Scooters flying past. Sidewalks that appear, disappear, and then reappear just when you stop expecting them.

We squeezed through tiny alleys where the stroller barely fit, already sweating, already laughing at how “just a short walk” had turned into an adventure.

And then we reached 7-Eleven—a whole new world.

Breakfast at 7-Eleven

Looking around what would make for breakfast I spotted cold packaged sandwiches… but no toaster and some funny flavors. A small menu behind the counter suggested drinks. After watching the other shoppers, we discovered the secret: they just toast your sandwich for you! Problem solved. We would try an arrange of different flavors and see what is best.

I grabbed a few squeezable fruit pouches for the kids. No internet meant no translation—so I had accidentally bought collagen jelly. Sweet doesn’t even begin to cover it. The kids politely refused, and we all had a good laugh.

Hotel Pool Redemption

After a quick breakfast, it was time for redemption: the hotel pool. Sunshine, splashing water, happy kids—suddenly, the day felt like a proper vacation.

Next on the agenda: finding our next hotel and deciding if we’d follow the route we had originally planned. But for now, for a few blissful hours, everything was perfect.
